Welcome to the newest addition to the Pearce's Pet Place Web Site!! This page is for all those Koi lovers and avid gardeners. Pond season is finally here and it's time to start thinking of adding some life to that bare yard of yours!!! No I'm not talking rose bushes and daffodils either. I'm talking adding a garden pond or two with plenty of bright colored koi for all to enjoy!!
The first thing you'll want to consider is location. The location of your pond is a big factor in making the yard look good, and being able to just look out the window or sit on the patio with a great view of the pond will make you feel good too.
The next thing you'll want to consider is the size of the pond and what supplies you will need. Complete pond kits can be purchased at the store as well as pumps filters, and also molded tubs that just need to be put into the ground without having to worry about shaping big liners. You will need to make sure you have proper filtration for your pond because too much ammonia in the water an any Nitrites will kill your Koi. Test kits can be purchased at the store. You must make sure that you have a pump strong enough to circulate the water for the filter system and and fountains or waterfalls. Remember oxygen is a must. Plants add oxygen as well as help remove harmful chemicals from the water.
Once you've set up your creation it's now time to consider adding "Life".
Now for the moment we've all been waiting for..... the KOI!!! These beautiful colorful carp will add life to your garden pond and it's nice to sit back and relax watching them swim about. There are over 80 types of Koi, But I'm only showing you 46. So sit back and enjoy!! Trudy may have other common names for these Koi, but For now I am using show and champion names as these fish are very popular for show just as cats and dogs are.
